“My collection of paintings is inspired not only by my home and garden but also draws upon memories of my childhood. It explores my thoughts on both the human and animal desire to create a home. However grand or modest it may be, it is still home.
My paintings document the everyday objects that surround me, many of which have history and a story behind them. My work is an expression of my love and connection with nature on my daily walks and hours spent in my garden. I love growing plants and flowers.
Some of the paintings are evoked by memories of my childhood visits to the homes of my Grandmother and Aunties and Uncles. The days of family get togethers.. On special occasions a buffet, when there would be cubes of cheese and pineapple on sticks, quiche, sausage rolls, scotch eggs, vol- au- vent and flan. My mum was a wonderful cook and baked the most delicious cakes. We always came home from school to a home cooked meal in a warm and cosy kitchen. Something I realise today I was very lucky to have.
I have tried to express these memories and emotions in my paintings through the use of textures, colours and mark making.”
